Choices by Sheila Bliss ~Review~ ***

This book is about a woman, Laurel, who is faced with many difficulties in her life. She is married to her high school sweetheart, and she has three young children with him. But, she finds her relationship lacking the love and spark that it had in the past.
Her husband has a drinking problem, and she finds herself dreading being seen with him out in public because of his embarrassing behavior.
Then she meets Brandon. The 27 year old son of a friend and the attraction is instantaneous and mutual. She finds herself drawn to him, and he makes no secret of the fact that he feels a pull towards her as well.
The story line for this book is good, and I think it even has the potential to be great. But I don’t think it reached that potential.
I found the first person point of view to be lacking. There was a lot of dialogue without enough narrative about what was going on around Laurel, and it made it confusing to keep track of everything.
There wasn’t enough description to be able to tell who was talking when, it seemed like it was all jumbled together and that made it hard for me to read.
My second issue with this story has nothing to do with the quality of the writing, and everything to do with the content. I found myself hesitant about this book, because of the cheating aspect. But that has to do with my own personal beliefs and is not a reflection on the writing or author at all.
I’m going to give this book 3 out of 5 stars, because as I said, the story line was intriguing and had great potential. I can’t give it a higher rating though, because I believe that the quality of the writing was lacking and could have been better.
