~Author Spotlight~ Zack Love

Zack Love graduated from Harvard College, where he tried to create a bachelor’s degree in Women. With the bachelor portion of that degree in hand, he settled in New York City but – to afford renting his bed-sized studio – found himself flirting mostly with a computer screen and stacks of documents. Determined not to die a corporate drone, Zack decided to sacrifice sleep for screenwriting, an active social life, and Internet startups offering temporary billion-dollar fantasies.

To feed his steady diet of NYC nightlife, he regularly crashed VIP parties in the early 2000s and twice bumped into his burgeoning crush, a Hollywood starlet. But – much to Zack’s surprise – neither of those awkward conversations led to marriage with the A-list actress. Zack eventually consoled himself by imagining fiascoes far worse than those involving his celebrity crush. In the process, he dreamed up a motley gang of five men inspired by some of his college friends and quirky work colleagues. And thus was born Sex in the Title. But the novel is not autobiographical: Zack never had his third leg attacked by any mammal (nor by any plant, for that matter). In fact, keeping his member safe has been one of Zack’s lifelong goals – and one of the few that he’s managed to accomplish.

1. What makes you want to write romance?

I'm not really a romance writer per se but I am fascinated by relationships (and women), so I guess those interests inform my writing. But I don't really have any one genre. I like humor, drama, romance, philosophy, and all of these elements usually creep into my works in one way or another...

2. What gives you inspiration to write?

Anything and everything. One of my short stories, City Solipsism,

was inspired by a simple subway ride to work. Everything is inspiration; because it's all part of this crazy experience we call being alive. Hell, even this Q & A could inspire me. Actually, I just got a great idea for a movie by answering this question! But I'm going to ignore it for now so that I can get through the rest of your interview! ;-)

3. Character you MOST relate to from your stories.

There’s a bit of me in each of the Sex in the Title men! ;-)

4. When you write, do you need it to be quiet or do you

listen to music ... what kind of atmosphere do you write in?

I prefer quiet but certain types of scenes flow better when I'm

listening to the music that suits them (if it were the soundtrack to the

movie in my head).

5. What is the craziest thing that has happened since you published Sex in the Title?

Hollywood sent me a million dollar offer to adapt it to film. And

then I woke up. Again.

6. Have you ever taken a real life thing and used it in your book(s)?

If so, tell us about it.

There is no detail in any story that is exactly from life but

most details are inspired by something and then I imagine something

much more interesting happening.

7. Which of your works is your favorite?

Tough question. I like them each for different reasons!

8. What is the social life like for an established "Sex" writer? Do women offer to take part in your next novel? Anyone with special pet fetishes that will show themselves in your next novel?

I wouldn’t consider myself an established “sex” writer and definitely not an erotica writer. But the ironic title that I chose for my book may confuse some readers into thinking that. As for my social life, ever since becoming a full-time author, the vast majority of my waking hours are spent in front of a laptop these days, so it isn’t nearly as interesting as my imagination is! ;-)

9. Has anyone ever sent you panties?
Only really smelly gym socks.

10. Has your life changed since the success of your novels, and if so, in which way?

I now drive a Ferrari to meetings and have been approached by

multiple authors who need inspiration on which to base their next

billionaire alpha male character.
