- Martin uniquely delves into the mind of a serial killer with a twist that is unlike any other. - C. Rose

HOW DO YOU HIDE FROM A KILLER WHEN HE'S IN YOUR MIND?

Emily Monroe conceals her psychic gift from the world, but her abilities are much too strong to keep hidden from a killer who shares her powers.
A savvy private investigator, Emily discreetly uses her gift to solve cases. When the police ask her to assist on a new case, she learns the killer they seek is not only psychic, but fixated on her. He uses his victims as conduits to communicate with her, and she hears their screams while they are tortured. She opens her mind to help the victims, but it gives him a portal that he uses to lure her to him. With the killer taking over her mind, she must somehow stop him before she becomes his next victim.

Angie Martin has studied criminal behavior and forensics for most of her life, which comes through in the incredible detail in the book. In college, she was a member of the American Criminal Justice Association, LAE, and won trophies in regional competition in crime scene investigation as well as two testing areas.
The author of the well-received suspense novel, False Security, takes the concept of “psychic” to an all-new, terrifying plane with her thriller, Conduit. Starring private investigator Emily Monroe, Conduit pits Emily’s psychic abilities against an equally gifted serial killer who tries to take over her mind and lure her to him. The book returns readers to the Midwest city of Wichita for a suspenseful, thrilling ride they will not soon forget.

The Many Genres of Conduit

Many books today cross genre boundaries, but I never dreamed I would write a book that crosses so many of them. Conduit can easily fit into several genres: thriller, suspense, paranormal, crime, mystery…and yet it doesn’t fit entirely into any of them. I love it when a reader outside of these genres try out the book and find that there are many elements of the book that resemble the books they normally read.

When I started writing Conduit, I knew it would be a thriller. When you have a serial killer, that’s a pretty easy initial genre determination. I wanted to be sure to keep up those thrills throughout the book and build the suspense, but what I found difficult was offsetting the darkness in the book with light. As the characters developed, I found the characters had moments of humor which were a nice surprise in contrasting the moments of evil.

Even more surprising was the blossoming relationship between Emily and Jake. I like to think that it surprises readers, too, in that they don’t expect to find such a strong love story running through the pages of a book with a psychic serial killer. As I continued writing, I fell in love with the idea of Emily and Jake in love, and I watched their relationship grow, much as the reader does when they read. The idea of them as a couple always puts a smile on my face, and I spent a lot of time making sure that their story bleeds love through the pages. For me, Conduit isn’t just a thriller, or a paranormal psychic story, or a crime story of the cops hunting for a killer. It’s a love story, one that I want my readers to enjoy as much as I do.
