She likes picking up her camera because it allows her to see things through a different lens. Like when she lost her job recently and instead of focusing on what she’s forced to leave behind, she zooms in on the new options opening up in front of her. Or when a dangerous looking silver fox comes rolling up her path on a FatBoy, and her digital output shows a deep loneliness, matching her own, in his ice-blue eyes.
But when she's working on making her dreams come true, she inadvertently captures something in her viewfinder she can’t un-see.

He wasn’t supposed to be here, but he can’t seem to escape his old life. Stuck in an old trailer in the mountains, he walks a fine line between ruse and reality. With the arrival of a young-looking pixie—who turns out to be a full grown, hot-blooded woman—his balance is thrown.
He tries to avoid her, but with the little pixel peeper snapping everything in sight, she unintentionally risks his exposure.

And his focus needs to be sharp to keep her from danger.

*****Shutter Speed is a prequel novella to Freeze Frame (a Snapshot Novel)

*****

Shutter Speed, by Freya Barker, is a novella and the beginning to what promises to be a pretty great love story.

I've never made it a secret that I was never a huge fan of novellas, but a couple of years ago I decided to give one a shot and I completely loved it, so ever since then I have been more open to the idea of the short story. Just because it's short doesn't mean it's lacking, or any less than a full length novel.

So when I got the chance to read this story, I didn't let the fact that it was a novella faze me. Instead I let the fact that it's a suspenseful romance (which I love) about a headstrong girl and a slightly older man (again, two things that I love) be my deciding factors and I jumped at the chance to read it.

I'm oh so glad that I did, and I'm already looking forward to reading the second book in the series, a full length novel that's just come out this month.

This book is about a woman named Isla, she's a photographer who is running a mountain side campground for her uncle for the summer. And Ben, an undercover agent who is staying at the campgrounds while he works to take down a drug dealer that has set up shop at the camp.

Isla stumbles upon information that could get her into some serious trouble as she just tries to do her job, and Ben stumbles into some feelings that could get him into serious trouble as he tries to keep Isla safe without blowing his cover and losing his chance to stop the bad guys.

Usually I try to find one or two things about a story that I didn't like as well as the things that I did like to try to help others make their decision on whether or not to read a book. But as I think back on this story and try to come up with something negative to say, I'm coming up blank.

The plain and simple fact of the matter is, it's just a good story. It was entertaining and I really enjoyed reading it.

People should read this. It's a great story and I recommend it highly.

5 out of 5 stars
