Nineteen-year-old Anna James is an Ex-President's daughter with a bounty on her head. A sudden thirst for teenage rebellion lands her in a crowded night club, where she locks eyes with a beautiful stranger across the room.

Ten years her senior, elusive and brooding Julian rescues Anna and then whisks her away to an undisclosed location in the wilderness. But Julian is like a force of nature—cold as ice one minute, warm and tender the next. Frightened and distressed, Anna is reluctant to trust her hero.

Especially when she discovers that Julian is the man hired to kill her.

****

Mercy, by Lindsay Marie Miller, is the first book that I have read from this author.

Overall the book is good. It's well written and entertaining and the storyline is enjoyable from a multi-genre point of view since it has romance, mystery, and suspense.

I have to say though that I was a little surprised when I looked up the author and saw the large number of books she has published, because the story had a bit of an almost amateur feel, as if it were written by a new author. That's not to say that it was bad, or that there was anything wrong with it, on the contrary, it was quite good. It just had the feeling that you get from a first time author.

This story is about a young girl, Anna, only nineteen, and the daughter of an ex-president. After she and a friend of hers are both taken from a night club she is rescued by a handsome stranger. He's a little older and a little mysterious, and one of the men hired to kill her, but for reasons unknown to Anna he protects her even at the risk of his own life.

When I first started reading this book, I found myself wondering right along with Anna why Julian, the mysterious stranger, would go to such lengths to save her. And as we go along and Julian flip flops back and forth between being nice and then pushing her away, I found myself right along with Anna once more, in turn being frustrated and utterly enchanted by with him.

The mystery behind who he works for and why he changed plans from his original goal, is so well written that you find yourself questioning your own thinking because you don't know if you should be rooting for him to fail or succeed. Who is he really, what is his end game and who hired him to kill her? All questions that are answered in time but keep you in suspenseful anticipation until then.

I'm glad that I got to read this book and I will be checking out more books from this author, and I recommend others do as well.

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.
