She’s the boss.
She’s the boss.
I’m only a barista in her company.I really don’t give a f**k about her one way or the other.
And then there’s Doug Maddox, a man with a lot of power over me. He’s blackmailing me. Making me spy on her. I’m supposed to find her weaknesses and destroy her. But the closer I get, the more the lines between us start to blur.
She’s sweet. She’s kind. She’s sexy as hell.
Why am I the only man who see’s this?
So now I’m stuck—between keeping my sister safe against Doug, because that’s what’s really at stake here, and these feelings I can’t deny for a woman who shouldn’t mean anything to me.
I know what I have to do. I’ll destroy her.
It doesn’t matter if I have to destroy my own heart in the process.

But First, Coffee by Sarah Darlington is one of those reads that's a little different, but in a good way. I really enjoyed reading this one. It's got a little mystery in it, with secrets and two characters whose instant connection makes their lives so much more fun and worth while.
I admired Lana, she's a fierce character who has worked so hard to get where she is and keeps working to be the best she can be. I love how meeting Joe throws her off her axis and makes her want more in her life. Her and Joe seem to complete each other, but they have to fight to keep each other.
Joe Coffee's character is mesmerizing. I love that when he meets Lana he can't help but let so many truths fall from his mouth, even though he's there under false pretenses. The fact that he is trying to protect someone he loves makes him a magnificent character. I loved everything about him. Not to mention the trauma that Joe goes through. My heart broke for him and I was so angry when he finally tells Lana what happened to him. His character has to push past so many demons and watching him grow is a beautiful thing.
So be prepared for a romance that's not like all the others. It's a fun read, with lots of drama and an ending you won't see coming. The only thing I didn't like about the book was that sometimes I found myself focused on the other character, Doug, more than the main characters. Other than that I couldn't put this one down. I had to see how it would all play out.
I give But First, Coffee by Sarah Darlington 3.5 out of 5 STARS!!
