Useless fucker. I can’t even believe that I gave him the time of day. I should have let him die the night he came into my emergency room with a bee sting. I know that’s not nice and allergies aren’t anything to play with, but he’s also a lying fuck.

“See how she likes this,” I laugh hysterically as I drag my key down the side of his pretty shiny red Mazda. A fucking Mazda! Each scrape of my key against the paint makes me feel a little better. At least I’m smiling while I do it. That’s positive reinforcement, isn’t it? My hand makes the loop to finish off the word ‘cockbag’ on the driver’s side of his car. I already keyed the word ‘slut magnet’ on one side. Reaching for the baseball bat I brought along, I spin it around in my hands.

“Temple steps up to the plate,” I say loudly although I know the bastard can’t hear me. “She swings.” I swing the bat around and listen to it crunch through his headlight. “Homerun!” I roar with a smile on my face. I move to the other and do the same thing, taking great pride in the mess I’m making of his precious car. If I could blow it up and get away with it, I would, but since I can’t, this is the next best thing. Dezzy leans against the brick building laughing her ass off. Glad I could amuse her.

“He’s going to shit bricks when he sees this,” she adds making me smirk.

“Well, he would have seen it sooner if he didn’t take the ho to Florida on vacation. I guess someone is just going to have to slip up and send him an anonymous text message.” With the shrug of my shoulders, I pull the bat back and take out the back taillight.

“Don’t play that crap with me, Sean Arrowood. I know you better. You want the wife and kids. You always have. The issue that you have is that you’re stupid.”

“Stupid?”

She nods. “Yup. S-T-U-P-I-D. And dumb.”

God, I love the side of her that is smart-mouthed, fearless, and relaxed. She’s only this way with me. Or at least, that’s what I’d like to think.

The last ten years have been hard on our friendship. We both went off to college, I had baseball and she was studying. We’d see each other on breaks, but after the accident that changed the trajectory of my life, I stayed in Maine, and we rarely saw each other.

However, when I had a series in New York, Devney came. If I was in Philly, she would find a way to meet me, and I flew her down to Tampa a few times.

For so long I’ve fought against telling her anything about how I feel. How those women are faceless and mean nothing to me. It’s always her. Always a brunette who I seek out, hoping to find just a piece of something like her that I can cling to, but I never say it.

“How do I know that?”

A low, frustrated sound escapes his lips and he drops the medication bag, and spikes fingers into my hair, a low curse escaping his lips. All Dani wanted was a hot shower, a glass of wine and possible food. Traffic had been a nightmare coming out of Baton Rouge. A pile up on the I-10 had traffic at a standstill for hours. Stripping off her work clothes, making her way to the kitchen for that glass of wine before jumping in the shower.

Sonny dialed Dani’s number as he got in his car. It had been an all-around v long night. He was hungry and tired but what he wanted was his woman lying next to him. Now if she would pick up the phone he would bribe her with the promise of a massage one she could give to him. Sonny smiled at the thought.

Sonny was a little disappointed when Dani didn’t answer her phone. Looking at his watch he realized it was after midnight. She was probably in bed. Sonny put the phone away and headed home.

Dani lie on the floor her lip was busted she could taste blood in her mouth. One of her eyes was swollen shut. She couldn't see who the person was that attacked her when she got home. Now a lamp shined in her face keeping her from seeing anything. Whoever it was hadn't tried to rape her so far. But she was only in her bra and panties. She had been about to get into the shower when she was struck from behind. That much she did remember.

Now tied up like a Christmas turkey she just lay there waiting for Sonny to save her.  Dani was counting on m to save her.

 Sonny heard the buzz of his phone; he was too tired to answer the blasted thing but it just kept ringing. Rolling over he grabbed it off the nightstand and growled into it.

Meet Stacy

It’s a rough world out there, and we all sometimes need a good, romantic beach read, even if we can’t make it to the beach. I’ve spent many lazy days walking the streets of Paris and other gorgeous European cities, and if I’m doing it right, I’m bringing you a dash of romance and a vacay fantasy.

I can’t sit still, so when I’m not hiking, biking or running, I’m playing a very average game of tennis.
