With a soft, tortured groan, his gaze leaves my eyes and moves to my mouth. I lick my lips in anticipation and watch him take a shaky breath. When he breathes, it presses him more deeply against me and it’s as if a switch is flipped. We reach for each other at the same time. Grabbing his neck, I pull his head down, knocking his cap and sunglasses to the floor, as he grabs my waist and lifts me up. Our lips find each other and it’s as if a bomb goes off.  His tongue sweeps past my lips, and our tongues war with each other as our teeth clash. There is no gentleness here. It’s as if we want to consume each other. His hands roam my ass, squeezing my cheeks, and my legs lock around his waist, keeping his rigid length exactly where I want it. He throws his arm back and clears the counter behind me and lays me back, before he settles firmly between my thighs.

My booted cast scrapes across the pavement. My ankle hurts and my arm is itchy from my cast. The staples in the back of my head were removed last week. Now all I have is a square patch of hair that is just beginning to grow back. I have a gash on my right side that runs from my hip bone almost to my breast. It looks like someone tried to slash me open with a jagged edged knife. The skin is healing, the stitches are innumerable, and every time I turn my torso it feels like someone is trying to rip my kidney out with their bare hands. There was a hiking accident. That’s all I know. The rest is being left up to my memory that my doctors have assured me will return. How in the hell do they know? What if I never remember? It’s been weeks since I woke up from my coma and I don’t remember anything more than the fact that I live with a stranger and I don’t like him when I dream. I’m still resting against the side of Adam’s car, fingering the back of my scalp when he comes outside. He stands next to me, crossing his feet at the ankles. We don’t touch. That small whisper of a touch he gave me in the doorway is the first time his hands have touched me since I the day I tripped in our kitchen. His arms reached out and caught me and I froze, paralyzed by having his hands on me. He shook his head, sighed, grabbed his keys and left the apartment and didn’t come back for two hours. When he did, the scent of beer laced his breath. “I’m sorry I keep getting frustrated with you, Ames.” His head falls and he runs a hand down the front of his face. “I just miss you.” His voice trembles a little bit and he sounds sad. He looks sad. I wonder what it would feel like to see him smile again like he did the night in my dream. Until the blonde girl, Tina, jumped into his arms he seemed happy to see me. Was he? Was I a game? If so, why am I still here? I press my fingers to my temples, hoping to stave off the beginning thumps of another headache. “Who’s Tina?”

She removed her helmet and wiped the wet strands of stray hair from her face. Her forehead was coated in beads of sweat, and her breathing hadn’t fully recovered from the strenuous activity. Dave lowered his eyes to her heaving yellow-clad chest, then leisurely looked up until he was peering into her eyes in that unnerving way he had.

“You did really well. Just wanted you to know.”

“Thank you, Dave.” Relief swept through her, and she smiled. Quite apart from the physical exertion she’d just undertaken, she felt her heart rate suddenly increase. He smiled back at her, and she took an involuntary inward breath, making her sound like she was choking. Her face flushed.

“Well, I can see you need a break.” He turned and strode back into the fire station, leaving her rooted to the spot, feeling like a starstruck teenager who’d just met their favorite celebrity pinup boy in the flesh.

He tilted his head to one side and narrowed his eyes, peering at her carefully. “You know, I feel we’ve met before. There’s something familiar about you.”

Oh boy, she’d remember if they had, she thought. “Don’t think so.” Then it hit her. Hm, maybe I’ve been caught out. She resisted the impulse to glance over at the female firefighter calendar hanging on the wall. Still he seemed to be racking his brain, trying to place where he knew her from.

“So, what time does your class start? It’s just that I wonder if…” He blinked and gave his head a slight shake, as though clearing his thoughts.

“You wonder…what?”

He cleared his throat, and brought his eyes back to hers. “I wonder if you have time for a drink?”


Excerpt 1 (18+)

Powerful arms enveloped her and she felt his body against hers. He brushed her lips with his, then kissed her deeply, eagerly. Electricity shot through her as she returned his hungry, lingering kiss, willingly entering the passionate embrace. His tongue was warm, tasting of bourbon and salt, as he probed and met up with hers. He broke away from her mouth and bent his head, nuzzling her neck, and kissing her skin softly. Moving slowly around to the front, his lips caressed the little hollow at the base of her throat.

“Won’t your zumba group notice you’re missing?” As he spoke, his day-old stubble grazed her neck.

“I don’t care.” Her words were breathy and soft. With one quick movement, he removed her little T-shirt. He ran his hands up both her bare arms, softly, gently, deliciously, until they reached her shoulders. He inserted a finger under each of the black Lycra straps of her leotard, dragging them aside. He kissed her shoulders and tugged the top down, revealing her breasts, full, voluptuous, and begging to be kissed.

~Review & Giveaway~ The Power To See by Jennifer Anne Davis ****

I really enjoyed reading this book. It was a suspenseful, thrilling, and romantic book. As soon as I started reading it I had to keep reading to figure out what was going on. It pulled me in from the beginning to the end. You find yourself attempting to put all the pieces together, but let me tell you first hand you never will because even I didn’t see half of what happened, coming.

Brianna is a sweet and good hearted girl. I adored her character. I hated how her father treated her and was always angry with him and her bad hand at luck. She deserved to be happy and have someone show her that they loved her because she was such a caring girl.

Dominick was a really nice guy. I really liked him. I absolutely hated that he was struggling with his conscience though. He knew deep down that everything he was getting involved with, everything he was choosing was wrong, yet he did it anyway. That killed me, to think that he was going to turn into a really bad guy because of how wonderful he was.

Then you have Matt. That’s all I can say, MATT!!! I was instantly in love with him. I couldn’t help but love him. He was caring and protective and everything your dream guy would be. Not to mention who he turns out to really be. He was a dreamy and loving, big hearted guy. I rooted for him in this book. I hated what happened between him and Brianna. It completely threw me for a loop, but when I found out the truth behind everything my heart broke a little more for them because they belonged together and it just didn’t seem possible.

So if you enjoy a wonderful book that throws you into all kinds of twists and turns then this book is for you. I love a good suspenseful book every now and again and this one was no exception. It was absolutely wonderful and you can’t help but hope for the best for all the characters involved except for one of course, Salazar. He is such an evil man. I did not like him at all. The only thing I wasn’t crazy over was the ending. I was so happy for Bri that she finally gets away from her evil father, but what happens before and after was a SHOCKER. I’m still in shock and can’t believe how it went. I so hope that there is a book two so I can see what happens next with all of the wonderful characters.
